1. Driver Requirements & Identification
- Age: The Hirer must be between 23 and 75 years of age.
- License: Drivers must hold a valid National Driving License from their country of residence or an International Driving Permit (IDP). The license must have been held for at least 2 years without major endorsements.
- Documentation: A copy of a valid Passport and the original driving license must be presented at the time of vehicle collection.
2. Booking, Payment, and Cancellation
- Deposit: A 30% to 50% deposit is required to confirm a booking. For safari packages involving Gorilla or Chimpanzee permits, 100% of the permit fee must be paid upfront.
- Balance: The remaining balance is payable upon vehicle collection or safari commencement.
- Payment Methods: We accept cash (USD printed after 2009 or UGX), Bank Transfers, and Credit Cards (Visa/Mastercard). Note: Credit card payments may attract a 3.5%–5% surcharge.
- Cancellation Policy:
- 60+ days before: 75% refund of deposit.
- 30–59 days before: 50% refund of deposit.
- Less than 30 days: No refund of deposit.
- Note: Gorilla and Chimpanzee permits are non-refundable as per UWA policy.
3. Vehicle Use & Restrictions
- Operating Hours: For safety and insurance reasons, driving is strictly permitted between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Driving after 7:00 PM is at the Hirer’s risk and voids insurance.
- Speed Limits: * Towns: 50 km/h.
- Highways: 80 km/h.
- National Parks: 40 km/h.
- Note: Speeding in National Parks attracts a fine of USD 150 from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
- Geographic Limits: Vehicles are insured for use within Uganda only. Cross-border travel (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania) requires prior written consent and the purchase of COMESA insurance (approx. USD 40–50).
4. Insurance & Liability
- Comprehensive Insurance: Our vehicles are comprehensively insured against third-party damage, fire, and theft.
- Insurance Excess: In the event of an accident where the Hirer is at fault, the Hirer is liable for the “Excess” fee (usually USD 300–500 for RAV4s and USD 500–1,000 for Land Cruisers).
- Exclusions (Hirer 100% Liable):
- Tire damage, punctured tires, and damaged rims.
- Windscreen cracks or shattered glass.
- Underbody damage due to off-road driving.
- Damage caused by reckless/drunk driving or driving after 7:00 PM.
- Single-vehicle rollovers (often carries a specific fine of USD 1,000+).
5. Maintenance & Fuel
- Fuel Policy: Vehicles are typically delivered with a certain level of fuel; the Hirer must return the vehicle with the same fuel level. We recommend refueling only at Shell or Total stations to ensure fuel quality.
- Daily Checks: The Hirer is responsible for checking oil, water (radiator), and tire pressure daily.
- Breakdowns: In case of a mechanical breakdown, Boost Car Rental will provide a replacement vehicle within 24 hours (Uganda) or 72 hours (Cross-border).
6. Safaris & Guided Tours
- Wildlife: While we do our best to ensure successful sightings, wildlife viewing is not guaranteed.
- Chauffeur Driven: If a driver is provided, they work from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The Hirer is responsible for the driver’s meals and accommodation unless otherwise agreed in the safari package.
