3 Days Kibale Safari

This 3-day chimpanzee trekking safari takes you to Kibale National Park, the "Primate Capital of the World." Home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, this journey offers an intimate look at our closest biological relatives in their natural habitat.

Day 1: Travel to Kibale Forest via Fort Portal

Your Kibale safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or residence in Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel westward through the lush green tea plantations of Fort Portal, a town nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. After a local lunch in Fort Portal, you will visit the "Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru" caves and hike to the nearby crater lakes for stunning panoramic views. Continue to the edge of Kibale Forest National Park to check into your lodge for dinner and an evening listening to the sounds of the tropical rainforest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

After an early breakfast and briefing at the Kanyanchu Visitor Center, you will head into the forest with expert rangers to track a habituated chimpanzee troop. Once located, you will spend one hour watching them swing through canopy branches, groom one another, and communicate with deafening hoots. In the afternoon, you will visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. This community-run swamp is a haven for birdwatchers (home to the Great Blue Turaco) and offers sightings of various monkeys, including the Red Colobus and L’Hoest’s monkey.

Day 3: Cultural Heritage & Return to Kampala

Enjoy a final breakfast in the forest air before embarking on a cultural village walk to learn about the traditions of the local Batooro and Bakiga people. You will see how they process coffee and bananas and visit local homesteads for a deeper insight into Ugandan life. Afterward, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. You will stop for lunch along the way and arrive in the late afternoon for your drop-off at the hotel or airport, concluding your primate adventure.
