3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Safari

This 3-day gorilla trekking safari takes you deep into the ancient, misty hills of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This journey is carefully timed to ensure you maximize your time with the mountain gorillas while enjoying the scenic beauty of southwestern Uganda.

Day 1: Drive to Bwindi via the Equator

Your gorilla safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe in a comfortable 4x4 cruiser or van. You will make your first stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for a fun photo opportunity and a water flow demonstration. The journey continues through the rolling hills of Ankole, where you’ll see the famous long-horned cattle, followed by a lunch stop in Mbarara. As you ascend into the Kigezi highlands, often called the "Switzerland of Africa," the air grows cooler and the landscapes more dramatic. You will arrive at your lodge on the edge of the Bwindi forest in the late afternoon for dinner and a good night's rest.

Day 2: The Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers. You will be assigned to a gorilla family and then enter the thick forest to begin your trek. Tracking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas' movement. Once you find them, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.

In the afternoon, you can opt for a Batwa Cultural Trail to learn about the forest’s original inhabitants or enjoy a guided nature walk.

Day 3: Return to Kampala or Entebbe

Following breakfast, you will begin your scenic drive back to central Uganda. You will travel through the terraced hills of Kabale, enjoying the last views of the misty rainforest. A lunch stop will be made along the way, typically in Mbarara or at the Igongo Cultural Centre. You will arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe in the early evening, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or the airport for your onward flight, concluding your majestic primate adventure.
